How Does He Do That?

You've been there. Sometimes you just really need to hear from God. And then he speaks so clearly. It's amazing. It's happened about 4 times this week. And here's another example. Psalm 25:1 To you, O Lord , I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. 3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous... 12 Who is the man who fears the Lord ? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. 13 His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land... 21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.

A Thousand Times...

I'm sure I've heard this passage read well over a thousand times, but I don't know if I ever needed hearing it more than I needed it tonight... 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Rejected and Marvelous

The world rejects Christ thinking that He is a waste of time, a crutch, something for the weak. To the beloved, He is marvelous. 10 Have you not read this Scripture: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; 11 this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” Lord, You are marvelous.

What Makes God Marvel?

I marvel at God and His works, but what makes God marvel? Mark 6:4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. Our unbelief. God can't believe that we can't believe. When I marvel at His handiwork, I too can't believe that we can't believe. Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.

Music Tuesday - Phil Wickham

Image
Sometimes you hear a song for the very first time and you just know it's right. Cannons from Phil Wickham is just such a song. It's a cry to the Holy God that He deserves to hear from us every day. I bet we'll be singing this one at The Heights very soon. You can get the video from youtube or just watch it below. Update: You can go to Wickham's website www.philwickham.com and if you sign up you can download the singalong album for free! I like the "singalong" version better than the "polished" one from the new album. Here's the songlist for August 8th, 2009 at the Heights. As Sure as Day and Night

God's promises are as sure as day and night... 19 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 20 “Thus says the Lord : If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night , so that day and night will not come at their appointed time, 21 then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers. 22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.” 23 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 24 “Have you not observed that these people are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two clans that he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight. 25 Thus says the Lord : If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth, 26 then I will r

What Words Give You Away?

Random thought from my reading today... 5 And the Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, “Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” When he said, “No,” 6 they said to him, “ Then say Shibboleth,” and he said, “Sibboleth,” for he could not pronounce it right . Then they seized him and slaughtered him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time 42,000 of the Ephraimites fell. I grew up in Decatur, and you could recognize people from that area by asking them to say the word "wash." People from Decatur usually say "worsh." What words give you away? Do you "cut" on the lights? Do you light a "fire" or a "far?"
