O The Blood - Gateway Worship

Image
Really enjoying this song lately. Some songs just make you burst forth in thanks. O The Blood is one of those for me.

Jesus Culture - I Exalt Thee

Image
Ragamuffin Soul had a post on What Songs Are Working In Your Church Right Now . I started digging through the songs and found some new stuff that I really like. Kim Walker singing How He Loves is one of my favorites, but this week I have loved listening to Kim and Jesus Culture do an old classic called I Exalt Thee. As usual they sing with incredible emotion and passion and I love the harmonies during the quiet parts of the song. What songs have you been singing in church lately that you are really enjoying?

Beautiful Things - Gungor

Sometimes the sadness is overwhelming. And yet the Lord is gracious. My brother has spent this week in Florida with his in-laws after the loss of a nephew. We have hurt and prayed for my brother's little girls as they deal with the loss of another cousin. It's not right, little kids should not have to hurt like this. In the midst of this pain my brother shared a song with me that he said had really ministered to his in-laws during this time. It's called Beautiful Things by Gungor . All this pain I wonder if I’ll ever find my way I wonder if my life could really change at all All this earth Could all that is lost ever be found Could a garden come up from this ground at all You make beautiful things You make beautiful things out of the dust You make beautiful things You make beautiful things out of us All around Hope is springing up from this old ground Out of chaos life is being found in You You make me new, You are making me new Such a great reminder of hope in the mi...

Even If I Fall

I love to find a song that the very first time I hear it, I love it. We were spending some time with my brother in Decatur and he mentioned a song that they sang at camp. He said they were having a hard time singing How He Loves, but this song became the camp favorite. It's called Even If I Fall by Mike Cowart. The chorus is: (Ladies) - Even if I fall, I'll rise again for You are my God Even if I fall, You lift me up (Men) - When You're with me, I will rise up When You lift me up The lyrics are simple, but a great reminder that there is always hope in Christ. I can't wait to do this at The Heights. Cross-posted at The Heights Blog

All Creatures of our God and King and Psalm 62

(This is a cross post from the Heights Blog ) This is our second week of doing Psalm 62 at the Heights. I love this song. Today we started with All Creatures of our God and King , and then we used the bridge of Psalm 62 to make our transition. I think in the future we might also use the the Kristian Stanfill chorus that he adds on to Jesus Paid It All along with Psalm 62 . What's your favorite transition right now? What two songs do you think would go really well together?

Music Tuesday - Phil Wickham

Image
Sometimes you hear a song for the very first time and you just know it's right. Cannons from Phil Wickham is just such a song. It's a cry to the Holy God that He deserves to hear from us every day. I bet we'll be singing this one at The Heights very soon. You can get the video from youtube or just watch it below. Update: You can go to Wickham's website www.philwickham.com and if you sign up you can download the singalong album for free! I like the "singalong" version better than the "polished" one from the new album. Here's the songlist for August 8th, 2009 at the Heights. Meet with Me There is None Like You The Love of God Speak O Lord

How He Loves Us - Kim Walker / Mcmillan

Image
Music Tuesday at 2 am on a Sunday Morning. No more coffee for me on Saturday nights! This song is pretty awesome - it's a pouring out of the heart. Probably not something that the congregation sings easily, but the chorus could be something special in a corporate setting. Wow, I especially love right at the end of verse 2 (about 3:48) "I don't have time to think about regrets when I think about the way...He loves us...O how he loves us!" I know this setting was highly charged with emotion, but it's hard to get past the simple truth that He loves us . Video clip here . Lyrics and chords here .

Music Tuesday - Brenton Brown

Image
Our piano player found a new song (or at least new to me) from Brenton Brown called Adoration . I love the bridge of this song, and I really like the way he tags the song with part of Paul Baloche/Matt Redman's A Greater Song at the end. You can check out the New Song Cafe video here . I haven't had much time to check out this site, but Soul Audio has some "free" downloads and Adoration is one of them. So download at your own risk. Also love the "Trucker" look. :) Calvary Setlist for January 18th Here I Am To Worship I Am Resolved How Great Is Our God Amazing Grace (To the tune of O How I Love Jesus)

Music Tuesday - Merry Christmas

My kids picked the winners for this year's giveaway . Congratulations to Jeff T. and Jacob. Your presents should be in your Inbox. Thank you to everyone for sharing some of their favorite music with us. If you're looking for some new music you might want to check out Patrol's The Best Faith-Inspired Albums of 2008. I think you'll be really surprised what's NOT on this list. These aren't your typical "Christian" albums. Also, if you have never listened to Sandra McCracken - you seriously need to. You can get her sampler free from NoiseTrade . Merry Christmas!

Music Tuesday - 2 Free Album Giveaways

Image
I've had a lot of fun giving away music throughout the year, but what's amazing is how many times no one would take me up on the offer. So with all the money I've saved, I'm going to try giving away two album downloads on iTunes. Of course, as with all giveaways, there is a catch. Here's this one... This giveaway will be a drawing. In order to participate you need to share what you think is your favorite song or favorite album that you heard in 2008 . (The song/album can be from any year, but this year is when you really came to enjoy it.) You will need to post your comments on the blog -- facebook comments won't count. I will draw from the names next Tuesday, December 23rd, and the two winners will receive one free email gift certificate for $10 from iTunes for the music of YOUR CHOICE . So you can get an album or you can choose 10 different songs if you wish. Here's my favorite album of the year: Room to Breathe from Andy Gullahorn . This album is...

A Charlie Brown Christmas - Vince Guaraldi Trio These Are Special Times - Celine Dion Behold the Lamb - Andrew Peterson A Christmas Together - John Denver & the Muppets Christmas With Elvis - Elvis Presley A Jazzy Christmas - Steve Newcomb Trio I think if I just had some Boys II Men - it would really round out the list. What's on your Christmas Playlist?

Music Tuesday - Shadowfeet

Image
I heard a song on the radio coming home from church last night. I thought the name of it was "Still Standing." That's the only part I could remember. The voice was beautiful, someone I knew I'd heard before, but couldn't quite place it. So I looked it up tonight on iTunes. Turns out that the song is actually named Shadowfeet . Brooke Fraser is the artist. That immediately answered why I like the song. Many of my favorite Hillsong United songs - None But Jesus , Hosanna , Lead Me to the Cross - they are all sung by Brooke. Next to Christy Nockels, Brooke may be my favorite female artist. Tremendous voice. So if you haven't heard it already, you may want to check out Shadowfeet. Tuesday Giveaway: First person to reply to this post can get Shadowfeet as an iTunes gift. Calvary Setlist for November 9th, 2008: Great and Mighty Holy is the Lord How Great Thou Art We Fall Down

Music Tuesday - Justin McRoberts

Image
The Question isn't are you gonna die - you're gonna die. Will you be done livin' when you do? Listening to some Justin McRoberts. Another good FREE download from noisetrade.com . The album is Deconstruction . And so far my favorite song is Done Living . You can listen for free over at Rhapsody. You can check out the video here . Or watch it below. Tuesday Giveaway: Are you kidding? You can download the whole album for free from NoiseTrade. :) Calvary Setlist for November 2nd: Above All Are You Washed in the Blood Trading My Sorrows Special - One Thing.

Music Tuesday - Aaron Keyes - Psalm 62

Image
Hymns are making a comeback. I found this from New Song Cafe on Youtube . This song has a strong melody and it sticks with you. The words are tremendous and I love how Aaron brings in the old hymn O Praise Him . This song is a " cracker ." Watch the video clip - then it will make sense. We hope to be singing this song very soon. I actually have a chord chart that I made in G if anyone needs it, send me a note. What other "modern" hymns have you found that you like? By the way - Aaron has a bunch of chord charts for his songs and other songs on his website. You may want to check it out . Tuesday Giveaway First person to reply can have Psalm 62 as an iTunes gift song. Winner: Conway. Music Tuesday - I Will Rise

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week. We were offline for a few days... I haven't heard all of Tomlin's new album, but I have heard the song I Will Rise . Our song leader let me hear it on Sunday afternoon. I was immediately impressed. This song will be such an encouragement to the church. We are already trying to figure out how we are going to use it. You can check out the song at Youtube And here is the video about how the song came about. Tuesday Giveaway: First person to reply will get I Will Rise as an iTunes gift song. Calvary Setlist for September 14th, 2008: He is Exalted Mighty to Save How Great is Our God Our God Reigns HT: Scott.

Music Tuesday - Delirious

Image
My neighbor put me onto a song by Delirious called Majesty . I don't listen to much Delirious, but I do like a lot of their popular songs. Recently I heard My Soul Sings on New Song Cafe with acoustic guitar. I really like that song. I would encourage you to check out both of these songs. You won't be disappointed. Tuesday Giveaway: This week the first two people to email me will get their pick of any Delirious song on iTunes. (I'm likin' that Genius Bar in iTunes 8 by the way.) Winners: 1. 2. Calvary Setlist for September 7th, 2008: What a Mighty God We Serve Everlasting God I Stand Amazed I Stand in Awe

There always is a catch by the way.. You can pay whatever you want, or you can submit 3 email addresses of friends who like music. It's Not About Me...

One of my friends, who'll remain anonymous at least for the moment, made a comment about my Music Tuesday posts. He said, "Why aren't any of the songs you highlight in your Music Tuesday posts in your weekly setlists?" Here's my answer... It's not about me! We went over this a little bit on Sunday in the sermon. If I was having a worship service just for myself, I would do a bunch of the songs that I have highlighted on Tuesdays. But not all of those songs work in a worship context, and even for those that do, a new song a week might be a bit much. On the other hand, we have done Hillsong's Mighty to Save the past two Sunday Nights at church. We have also done At the Foot of the Cross as special music. I also played Hear our Prayers as invitation music for our One Prayer series. And this past Sunday we did By His Wounds off of the Glory Revealed album for communion. And when I led worship at camp a few weeks ago we did Before the Throne (man is...

Music Tuesday - Paul Baloche

I think I'm getting addicted to Paul Baloche's instructional guitar videos. They really fit my current skill level. Just enough to almost be dangerous. You can find some clips of Paul on youtube, but you'll find most of his stuff on leadworship.com . Paul wrote Open the Eyes of My Heart , and Above All . I also really like Hosanna and All the Earth will Sing Your Praises . I think my favorite instructional video is Your Name . It is just plain beautiful. There's another one on youtube as well. But I like the first one better. Some other clips you may want your worship leader to check out... My Worship Team Won't Practice... Worship Band Workshop ... Performance vs. Worship Leading ... Introducing a New Song in Church ... Tuesday Giveaway: First person to reply can get their pick of any Paul Baloche song as an iTunes gift. Winner: 1. Jeff Calvary Setlist for August 24th Come Now is the Time to Worship I Love to Tell the Story All in All By His Wounds We Fall Down

Revelation Song

I was looking through praisecharts.com and found a new song (at least new to me) called Revelation Song . (This is NOT the Revelation 19 song we did at E-Team and Camp.) The Kari Jobe version is the most popular, but so far my favorite is from the IBC (Indiana Bible College) You can download the chords from Gateway Worship . (A quick disclaimer here - IBC is a Oneness Pentecostal school. I.e. I don't agree with all of their theology. But they have some tremendously talented musicians and vocalists.) IBC Version Kari Jobe Version Tuesday Giveaway: First two people to email me can get an iTunes gift of Revelation Song by whatever artist you choose - (IBC doesn't have an iTunes version. So you'll have to pick someone else.) Winners: 1. Travis H. 2. Calvary Setlist for August 17th: Great & Mighty I Will Call Upon the Lord I Am Resolved Victory in Jesus Still
