Really enjoying this song "Chains Hit the Ground" from Leeland...

Israel

Not sure why, but I really like this video...

Music Tuesday - Phil Wickham

Image
Sometimes you hear a song for the very first time and you just know it's right. Cannons from Phil Wickham is just such a song. It's a cry to the Holy God that He deserves to hear from us every day. I bet we'll be singing this one at The Heights very soon. You can get the video from youtube or just watch it below. Update: You can go to Wickham's website www.philwickham.com and if you sign up you can download the singalong album for free! I like the "singalong" version better than the "polished" one from the new album. Here's the songlist for August 8th, 2009 at the Heights. Meet with Me There is None Like You The Love of God Speak O Lord

How He Loves Us - Kim Walker / Mcmillan

Image
Music Tuesday at 2 am on a Sunday Morning. No more coffee for me on Saturday nights! This song is pretty awesome - it's a pouring out of the heart. Probably not something that the congregation sings easily, but the chorus could be something special in a corporate setting. Wow, I especially love right at the end of verse 2 (about 3:48) "I don't have time to think about regrets when I think about the way...He loves us...O how he loves us!" I know this setting was highly charged with emotion, but it's hard to get past the simple truth that He loves us . Video clip here . Lyrics and chords here .

Jesus Wants the Rose

I'm sure many of you've already heard this , but just in case...

Tell Somebody...

Two links that you should check out if you haven't already... 1. Mohler talking about how more evangelicals are not holding to the exclusivity of the gospel. 2. This video of Penn (from Penn & Teller) sharing how someone witnessed to him. You gotta see this one.

Music Tuesday - Aaron Keyes - Psalm 62

Image
Hymns are making a comeback. I found this from New Song Cafe on Youtube . This song has a strong melody and it sticks with you. The words are tremendous and I love how Aaron brings in the old hymn O Praise Him . This song is a " cracker ." Watch the video clip - then it will make sense. We hope to be singing this song very soon. I actually have a chord chart that I made in G if anyone needs it, send me a note. What other "modern" hymns have you found that you like? By the way - Aaron has a bunch of chord charts for his songs and other songs on his website. You may want to check it out . Music Tuesday - I Will Rise

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week. We were offline for a few days... I haven't heard all of Tomlin's new album, but I have heard the song I Will Rise . Our song leader let me hear it on Sunday afternoon. I was immediately impressed. This song will be such an encouragement to the church. We are already trying to figure out how we are going to use it. You can check out the song at Youtube And here is the video about how the song came about. Tuesday Giveaway: First person to reply will get I Will Rise as an iTunes gift song. Calvary Setlist for September 14th, 2008: He is Exalted Mighty to Save How Great is Our God Our God Reigns HT: Scott.

Music Tuesday - Paul Baloche

I think I'm getting addicted to Paul Baloche's instructional guitar videos. They really fit my current skill level. Just enough to almost be dangerous. You can find some clips of Paul on youtube, but you'll find most of his stuff on leadworship.com . Paul wrote Open the Eyes of My Heart , and Above All . I also really like Hosanna and All the Earth will Sing Your Praises . I think my favorite instructional video is Your Name . It is just plain beautiful. There's another one on youtube as well. But I like the first one better. Some other clips you may want your worship leader to check out... My Worship Team Won't Practice... Worship Band Workshop ... Performance vs. Worship Leading ... Introducing a New Song in Church ... Tuesday Giveaway: First person to reply can get their pick of any Paul Baloche song as an iTunes gift. Winner: 1. I talked about this clip a few weeks ago, but we didn't get to show it. It is a great story about customer service. Check it out ...

Revelation Song

I was looking through praisecharts.com and found a new song (at least new to me) called Revelation Song . (This is NOT the Revelation 19 song we did at E-Team and Camp.) The Kari Jobe version is the most popular, but so far my favorite is from the IBC (Indiana Bible College) You can download the chords from Gateway Worship . (A quick disclaimer here - IBC is a Oneness Pentecostal school. I.e. I don't agree with all of their theology. But they have some tremendously talented musicians and vocalists.) IBC Version Kari Jobe Version Tuesday Giveaway: First two people to email me can get an iTunes gift of Revelation Song by whatever artist you choose - (IBC doesn't have an iTunes version. So you'll have to pick someone else.) Winners: 1. Travis H. 2. Calvary Setlist for August 17th: Great & Mighty I Will Call Upon the Lord I Am Resolved Victory in Jesus Still

My God is in the Money?

This video clip of an "Amazing" Grace is priceless. HT: Mike. Thanks for this!

Touching Them All

I'm a sucker for a good sports story and this video has to be one of the best sports stories I've seen in a while. (HT: Kruse.) If you've got 5 minutes, this clip is worth every one of them. (Oh, and you might want to get a box of Kleenex.)

Our Present and Ever-Present Help

Today in our Storm Series we looked at Psalm 46... 1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah This series has been a real encouragement to me. It has been a reminder of just how much God loves his children. We also used Rob Bell's Nooma video entitled RAIN . You can check it out on YouTube if you like. I know Bell is pretty controversial, but his Nooma series is well done, and will encourage and inspire. That being said, it is still a good idea to check what is being taught - no matter who is doing the teaching.

Music Tuesday - United

Image
Can you have too much United? All of the Above was done in the studio so it's quite a bit different than their live albums. But it still has some quality music on it. Break Free , Saviour King , and Hosanna all debuted on this album. Desperate People is a great reminder of God's grace coming to rescue us. I think you'll like the "smooth" sound of Found . It is a reminder of the fulfillment that Christ brings. Solution is standard United. Strong Message and strong riffs. If you like to "jam" this is why you'll love United. Love this song. As I said in my last Hillsong post , if you like Saviour King , then this is the album for you. It contains a 12 minute and 16 second track of Saviour King . But I think the best song on the album is probably Lead Me to the Cross . Brooke is great as usual. This song can easily be sung in your church and it has a powerful message as well. You can check out the video clip from youtube. Tuesday Giveaway: Just post...

For Mom

We showed this video clip from Anita Renfroe on Sunday and it cracks me up every time I see it. How true!

Pop Goes the Church

Image
There is a really interesting discussion going on recently about Tim Stevens book Pop Goes the Church . Tim is the executive pastor at Granger Community Church in Indiana. Granger is known for their innovation in methodology. You can check out a video clip from their Easter Service here . Or watch it below. The big question is this: Should the Church embrace the Culture in its ministry, or should the Church reject the culture. Collide's next issue deals with this subject. (This is their latest cover.) For a really good look at the discussion check out the comments over at A Little Leaven. There are people on both sides chiming in. What do you think about using "Secular" music in the "Sacred" service ? Does your church play U2 or Coldplay or Madonna or Bon Jovi in it's services? What do you think about using these songs as tools to convey a message or as an illustration? Would this be any different than Paul quoting a secular poet in the script...

Music Tuesday - Saviour King by Hillsong

Image
Well if you haven't figured this out by now, I was born in America but my heart is in Australia. I have really enjoyed Michael Frosts messages and I love his accent. And Hillsong (along with Vineyard and Passion) is one of my favorite producers of music. United is probably my favorite band. And haven't you noticed that all praise and worship songs sound just a little better with an Australian accent? I'm sure we'll all speak that way in the New Heaven and Earth. :) So for this week I'm encouraging you to check out Saviour King by Hillsong. This album is loaded with choices. It has some songs that just rock and others that reflect. Right now I'm really enjoying I'm Not Ashamed when I need to hear something loud. This song has some excellent licks in it. In Your Freedom has a great chorus at the end of the song. I think it would make a great camp song. Lord of Lords is just beautiful. But then again, we've come to expect that from most any song that B...

Music Tuesday - Jeremy Riddle

Image
I got Jeremy Riddle's Full Attention Album a few weeks ago and have started to really enjoy a couple of the tracks. Most people will be familiar with Sweetly Broken which is a tremendous worship song and probably the best song on the whole album. The video clip The Gift of Worship uses Sweetly Broken for the background music and it fits so well. If you haven't shown this clip to your church, you should really check it out. You can watch it on Youtube or you can order it from Floodgate Productions. More Than a Friend is also a song that I enjoyed previously on one of the WOW worship CD sets. (I think I like the WOW version better.) It is a mellow, quiet and reflective song. I think we may try to fit it into our worship service sometime in the near future as special music. But something I've learned from listening to the whole album is that Riddle can rock. I think my favorite is A Call To Praise . "Truly we were made to praise the Lord." Amen! This song prob...

Music Tuesday - Robbie Seay Band

Image
I just started listening to Give Yourself Away from Robbie Seay Band. It is a different album but in a good way. (I'm still listening to Andy Gullahorn too. Can't seem to put that album down!) You can listen for free on Rhapsody . So far there are two tracks that I really like. Rise is the first track on the album, but it has a strong message. The music fits the lyrics well on this song. The other track I really like is Beautiful, Scandalous Night. Here's part of the lyrics... Follow Christ to the holy mountain Sinner sorry and wrecked by the fall Cleanse your heart and your soul In the fountain that flowed For you and for me and for all CHORUS: At the wonderful, tragic, mysterious tree On that beautiful, scandalous night you and me Were atoned by His blood and forever washed white On that beautiful, scandalous night Never heard of Smalltown Poets, but I may have to check them out after seeing they wrote this song. I'm probably making a gross generalization here, but ...
