Consoling Myself...With The Thought of Killing You.

Anger will eat you alive. As I was reading this morning from Genesis, you could feel the hatred that Esau had for his deceptive brother.

Genesis 27:41 Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, "The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob." 42 When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, "Your brother Esau is consoling himself with the thought of killing you.

Esau is finding comfort in the hope of destroying his brother. How do you forgive someone who has lied and stolen the most important things you have?

I'm not sure how you get there, but my reading today was Jacob and Esau's reconciliation. They had been apart for some 20 years and both had become rich. Time and money? Does that help? I don't really think so, just a thought. Besides that Jacob had a serious encounter with God, and God promised to be with him, so it was a God thing and nothing any human could accomplish. I certainly feel that many situations are only curable by God's intervention.

I agree, forgiveness like that has to be a God thing. It kind of reminds me of Corrie Ten Boom forgiving those soldiers. Only with God's help could you forgive like that.
