Music Tuesday - Jon Foreman (Switchfoot)

Every now and then you just need something mellow. My first impression of Switchfoot isn't usually mellow. Maybe Stars, or Meant to Live, or Dare You to Move, but not a mellow song.

The lead singer for Switchfoot, Jon Foreman, has released a Fall and Winter EP. If you're looking for a happy pick me up, this ain't it. But I do like "Learning How to Die." And if the mood strikes for something mellow with a little guitar and some strings this may be just what you are looking for.

Ok. This video of Jason Mraz is downright awesome. Ever have someone with a talent in church, but your just not sure how to use it? That's what I thought of when I saw this video. Something that at first is just monotonous, but then when put together with the right accompaniment - it's beautiful.

In our Simple lesson, D=Devotions . I think this may have been the most enjoyable chapter so far. Some call this daily devotions, others the morning watch or some call it quiet time. Whatever you call it, we all need to spend regular time with our Lord. Rob starts by sharing about his own father's practice of reading the scriptures and shares his testimony about how quiet times became of utmost important in his own life. He was speaking with Dr. Stephen Olford and asked him for advice. Dr. Olford replied, "Never, never, never miss your quiet time." Ruth Bell Graham encouraged him to start journaling or the "notebook habit" as she called it. The third big influence on Morgan's devotional life was through his study of Christian biographies. Just Making Memories or Ear Piercing--The Hard Way.

I always wondered what it felt like to have your ear pierced, but no longer do I wonder... This weekend Grandpa Penn came down to take the guys fishing. We got up early and headed out to the lake in the Jon Boat. We really had a great day catching fish and just spending time together. The weather was great - this was the first good cold fall weekend. The leaves were turning and there was a mist on the water. (That's a picture of Old Kinmundy Lake.) My son started us off with a nice catch. It was also a lot of fun to see the Largemouth hit Grandpa's frog lure on the top of the water. I even had a lot of fun setting the hook on some Largemouth myself. But later in the afternoon, someone set the hook on me! That's right - one of my fishing buddies was making a cast and on their back swing caught a hold of my right ear with an Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Wide Gap Worm Hook.
