Do Christians Ever Retire?
From today's reading...
I find it interesting that after 50 years of age the Levites were to withdraw from service. They were to continue to keep guard, but no longer would they serve as they had previously. I've often heard preachers say that they would never retire, and to be honest, I feel that I have that mentality. I plan to speak and serve as long as the Lord is willing. Yet even in the scriptures we see that there is a time to serve and a time to stop serving.
When are you retiring from the Lord's Army?
23 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “This applies to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall come to do duty in the service of the tent of meeting. 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall withdraw from the duty of the service and serve no more. 26 They minister to their brothers in the tent of meeting by keeping guard, but they shall do no service. Thus shall you do to the Levites in assigning their duties.”
