Shout to the....Idol?

Does anyone else find it ironic or just plain "weird" that American Idol closed their benefit show with Shout to the Lord? Also did you notice that they exchanged "Shepherd" for "Jesus?" I've heard them sing songs with the name of Jesus before so I'm not really sure why they decided to modify the song this time. Then as the show finished up, Ben Stiller led us off the stage with a tirade of profanities.

I guess the bigger question is - what in the world am I doing watching American Idol?

Good question. Wish I could answer it.

How do you feel about pop stars singing gospel songs? I can feel the old secular/sacred discussion coming on again. I guess if I was Darlene Zschech or Hillsong, I'd be glad to have this song of praise being shared with the world.

If you've got any comments on this one, I'd love to hear 'em.

I found myself in the same exact position.

One, I am not an Idol watcher by all means, my mother had it on when I got home from Bible Study.

It was a moving episode, and I'm glad with what they're doing. But in the end, I was suprised with the song of choice, I found myself singing along, and all the time was thinking, "This is weird; what do any of these people even believe in?"

It does almost kind of rub you the wrong way though when such a secular program uses a song which Christians hold high regards to.

Very interesting to say the least.

Glad I wasn't the only one with a "strange" feeling. :)

I would also like to add, that maybe it's not a bad thing either. I think it's one of those things that is a little hard to interpret. It all depends on what they meant by it. All-in-all, I'm torn. Was happy to hear it, but I guess I just wish someone else was singing it.

Alright, now I'm finished. :)
I'm glad that they at least sang it the right way on Thursday! :) It would be interesting to know the belief systems of each of them. I don't know...I kind of liked it! :) I totally think it was bad taste for Fox to allow Ben Stiller to end the show that way, though! So much for family friendly!
