Cultural Exegesis

In my inbox today was a newsletter from preachingtoday.com. This paragraph really caught my eye, especially after just posting about Pop Goes the Church.
Cultural exegesis is an important task for the preacher, so we thought we'd help you figure out what to keep an eye on for illustrations or key points of connection.

The Preaching Today Blog has a post every Friday that deals with what's going on in the culture. It deals with spiritual themes in books, music, movies and the like. I thought the term "cultural exegesis" was a pretty specific way of naming the discussion over culture in the church. I know that Christianity Today also publishes discussion guide studies that work with different movies as well.

This is probably too simplistic, but this whole discussion is really about how we can be in the world but not of it. I hope we are doing this here at Calvary.
